Rock Springs Cabin - Appalachian Trail
Celebrating our two year anniversary, my husband planned a spontaneous getaway to the Appalachian Trial ("AT") to visit Rock Spring Cabin, located in the Shenandoah National Park.
Back when him and his buddy, Chris, were section hiking the AT, they met up with Casey's father, Warren and did a fun day hike on the trail. They stumbled upon Rock Springs Cabin when passing the shelter right off of the trail and stayed on the porch to take advantage of the fireplace and AMAZING lookout.
Fast foward to our spontaneous weekend getaway, baby free, for the first time in 6 months! The trail was located 0.8 miles from the Rock Springs Parking lot off of Skyline Drive. With a easy hike in, we decided to take full advantage of the amenities and take beer, Jameson, champagne (for our anniversary), steaks, chicken...etc. The benefits of luxury camping!
Being a pet friendly cottage, we brought our two pups, Jasmine and Pebbles along for the journey. The cabin was equipped with mattresses, blankets, dishes, cooking pots, and a lot more daily things we usually leave behind when entering the AT.
When we first arrived we read the log book for the cabin, and found out that the mice really like to snack on everyones goods, so to hangs things up at night. After a couple of drinks, we spaced on hanging our packs up before falling asleep. In the middle of the night I started hearing snacking, thinking maybe one of the dogs was licking their paws, and fell back into a deep slumber.. Nope, it was not the dogs, it was our freaking toilet paper.
Other than the toilet paper incident, we had no downfalls whatsoever during our trip. Located a couple miles from the top of Hawksbill Peak, the tallest peak in the Shenandoahs, it offers the ability to venture off the AT for a four mile loop from the cottage.
